So after a summer of decamping into a communal office, which has been a bit like Big Brother (and hopefully, like Big Brother, never to be repeated) we are gearing up to return to our new offices. Same building, new offices. I am looking forward to moving, although like most people the change fills me with some apprehension. However at the end of the day i am happy that the new offices will make life better for both our staff and the students may see us looking a bit more professional too.
IĀ am wondering now of course how come, despite not being involved in the project at all, that i am being asked questions about alarms, glass frontage and skirting boards when really all i want to do is move my desk back in and getting cracking on. I suppose these are the issues that we General Managers are sent to try us. At least we have not been involved in too many arguments about colour schemes though.
As is usual at this time of year, anticipation and excitement levels are being ramped up in the SU as much as they are for the students, with deadlines coming and going, blogs written and goals set. I am personally looking forward to the new year, the arrival of the marquees in the car parks being a particular highlight. That’s the moment when i know “that time” has arrived.
I am confident that we are a Union who can build on our successes, with more awards to be won, more sports to be champions of, more people using the bars and all those other things we like to talk about. Ultimately though success is as much about making a difference to an individual studentĀ as it is about any awards, and i think it’s important that all our students know we are here and that we are ready and able to make the most of their time with us.
